{"id":70,"date":"2015-01-15T16:32:05","date_gmt":"2015-01-15T09:32:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.absoluteresorts.com\/our-stories\/?p=70"},"modified":"2015-01-15T16:34:18","modified_gmt":"2015-01-15T09:34:18","slug":"thailand-aims-for-brighter-year-with-2015-tourism-drive","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.absoluteresorts.com\/our-stories\/thailand-aims-for-brighter-year-with-2015-tourism-drive\/","title":{"rendered":"Thailand aims for brighter year with 2015 tourism drive"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>2015 Discover Thainess campaign launched as country aims to recover from 2014 woes.Thailand\u2019s tourism industry is aiming for a better year in 2015, following the launch of a new global marketing campaign.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.absoluteresorts.com\/our-stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/DSCF8423.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-71\" src=\"https:\/\/www.absoluteresorts.com\/our-stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/DSCF8423-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"DSCF8423\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.absoluteresorts.com\/our-stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/DSCF8423-1024x682.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.absoluteresorts.com\/our-stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/DSCF8423-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.absoluteresorts.com\/our-stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/DSCF8423.jpg 1600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The country\u2019s Prime Minister, General Prayut Chan-ocha, this week presided over the grand opening of the \u20182015 Discover Thainess\u2019 tourism drive, which featured a parade in the centre of Bangkok.<\/p>\n<p>The campaign, which is being spearheaded by the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), will focus on promoting the Thai government\u2019s \u201912 national core values\u2019, which include the promotion and preservation of Thai traditions and culture, and a focus on the national character of the Thai people.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c\u2019Thainess\u2019 represents the unique character of Thailand, which embodies centuries-old cultural values and social practices,\u201d said General Prayut. \u201cThe upholding of the three main pillars \u2013 the nation, religion and the monarchy \u2013, the preservation of Thai traditions and culture, such as, Thai arts and \u2018the wai\u2019 or the Thai greeting and show of respect, as well as the friendly nature of the Thai people, form part of \u2018Thainess\u2019 and make Thailand very unique as a nation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.absoluteresorts.com\/our-stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/DSCF8427.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-72\" src=\"https:\/\/www.absoluteresorts.com\/our-stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/DSCF8427-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"DSCF8427\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.absoluteresorts.com\/our-stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/DSCF8427-1024x682.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.absoluteresorts.com\/our-stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/DSCF8427-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.absoluteresorts.com\/our-stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/DSCF8427.jpg 1600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Highlights of the Discover Thainess year will include a series of events, including a Muay Thai (Thai boxing) festival in March, the nationwide Songkran (Thai New Year) Festival in April, the Queen of Silk Festival in August and the nationwide Loi Krathong Festival in November.<\/p>\n<p>Coinciding with the launch of the campaign, the Thailand Tourism Festival (TTF) is being held in Bangkok\u2019s Lumpini Park from 14-18 January.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe processions through the heart of Bangkok are a great way to kick-start the 2015 Discover Thainess campaign,\u201d said TAT governor Thawatchai Arunyik. \u201cBy giving a colourful taste of the Thai festivals and traditions and showing to visitors the nation\u2019s infinite variety, we are encouraging them to explore our country and culture.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat is more, because the event is taking place at the same time as the TTF, many tourists will be able to experience \u2018Thainess\u2019 through the observation and participation in various activities available at the five-day festival,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>According to official figures, international visitor arrivals to Thailand fell 6.6% in 2014, in a year that was impacted by protests, a coup, nationwide curfew and the imposition of martial law.
