{"id":1575,"date":"2018-09-26T18:57:41","date_gmt":"2018-09-26T11:57:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.absoluteresorts.com\/our-stories\/?p=1575"},"modified":"2018-09-26T18:57:41","modified_gmt":"2018-09-26T11:57:41","slug":"phuket-pledge-for-plastic-free-future","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.absoluteresorts.com\/our-stories\/phuket-pledge-for-plastic-free-future\/","title":{"rendered":"Phuket Pledge for plastic-free future"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>At the inaugural Phuket Hotels for Islands Sustaining Tourism Forum 2018 (PHIST), hotels and tourism groups pledged to establish a model for the sustainable development of Asian islands, with the focus currently on plastic usage and its purported detriments.<\/p>\n<p>The pledge commits stakeholders to reducing, reusing and recycling single-use plastic in Phuket, with the goal of eventually eradicating them in all hotels, as well as to undertaking a youth community education programme to raise grassroots awareness of the problems surrounding plastic usage.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.absoluteresorts.com\/our-stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Press_Release_Image_3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.absoluteresorts.com\/our-stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Press_Release_Image_3.jpg\" alt=\"Press_Release_Image_3\" width=\"640\" height=\"400\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1576\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.absoluteresorts.com\/our-stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Press_Release_Image_3.jpg 640w, https:\/\/www.absoluteresorts.com\/our-stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Press_Release_Image_3-300x188.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>PHIST gathered over 550 delegates from countries including Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam, Singapore and Hong Kong at the JW Marriott Mai Khao in Phuket to debate key issues.<\/p>\n<p>At the Green Groove area, regional suppliers headlined an exhibition of Asia\u2019s cutting-edge producers and inventors of sustainable products for the hospitality and tourism industries.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe need to fight for Phuket. It is as simple as that. And we can\u2019t do it alone. We need to do it together,\u201d said Phuket Hotel Association president and managing director of Trisara, Anthony Lark.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have worked to build an inclusive coalition of public and private sector tourism groups who understand the critical need to act and think long term.
