{"id":1479,"date":"2018-04-10T17:58:36","date_gmt":"2018-04-10T10:58:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.absoluteresorts.com\/our-stories\/?p=1479"},"modified":"2018-04-10T17:58:36","modified_gmt":"2018-04-10T10:58:36","slug":"phuket-gets-eight-booze-free-safe-water-play-zones-for-songkran","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.absoluteresorts.com\/our-stories\/phuket-gets-eight-booze-free-safe-water-play-zones-for-songkran\/","title":{"rendered":"Phuket gets eight booze-free, safe water-play zones for Songkran"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"pw-hidden-cp\">\n<p>The eight zones are to be set up as safe areas where families can enjoy light-hearted water play, Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Phuket Office (DDPM-Phuket) Chief Prapan Kanprasang confirmed to <em>The Phuket News<\/em>\u2019 sister newspaper <em>Khao Phuket<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.absoluteresorts.com\/our-stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/1523269006_1-org.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-1480 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.absoluteresorts.com\/our-stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/1523269006_1-org.jpg\" alt=\"1523269006_1-org\" width=\"720\" height=\"392\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.absoluteresorts.com\/our-stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/1523269006_1-org.jpg 720w, https:\/\/www.absoluteresorts.com\/our-stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/1523269006_1-org-300x163.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 720px) 100vw, 720px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cOfficials are making preparations, and will patrol the water-play areas to prevent people from any harm,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>As such, it will be illegal to sell or consume alcohol in the safe zones, he explained.<\/p>\n<p>In Patong the safe water-play zones will be set up at on Bangla Rd and at Loma Park.<\/p>\n<p>In Phuket Town, the zones will be at Saphan Hin Park and at the Limelight Avenue shopping mall on Dibuk Rd.<\/p>\n<p>As usual, Soi Ta-iad will be focal point of festivities in Chalong, while in Kata the safe zone will be set up along the \u201cCultural Street\u201d along the Kata beach road.<\/p>\n<p>Surin Beach will host the safe zone in Cherng Talay, Thalang, as will the Historical Park in Thepkrasattri.<\/p>\n<p>Phuket Governor Norraphat Plodthong inspected the Historical Park again on Friday (April 6), when he reiterated that the traditional Thai cultural theme for the park would mean that no water battles are to be fought there.<\/p>\n<p>Governor Norraphat made that point clear more than a week ago, when he visited the park on Mar 31.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWater pistols, squirt guns and water blasters are banned from celebrations in this park during Songkran,\u201d Governor Norraphat said.<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\">\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cAlso, we ask that all people who come to the park to celebrate Songkran to dress in traditional Thai outfits for the event,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI want Thai youths and tourists to experience a real Songkran Festival, when people pour water as a blessing for their elders.
