{"id":133,"date":"2015-02-05T16:46:27","date_gmt":"2015-02-05T09:46:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.absoluteresorts.com\/our-stories\/?p=133"},"modified":"2015-02-05T16:46:27","modified_gmt":"2015-02-05T09:46:27","slug":"thailand-enjoys-tourism-recovery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.absoluteresorts.com\/our-stories\/thailand-enjoys-tourism-recovery\/","title":{"rendered":"Thailand enjoys tourism recovery"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Strong tourist arrivals in January should give Thailand a positive first quarter, the Tourism Authority of Thailand reported Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.absoluteresorts.com\/our-stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/sam_4303.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-134\" src=\"https:\/\/www.absoluteresorts.com\/our-stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/sam_4303.jpg\" alt=\"sam_4303\" width=\"3840\" height=\"2160\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.absoluteresorts.com\/our-stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/sam_4303.jpg 3840w, https:\/\/www.absoluteresorts.com\/our-stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/sam_4303-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 3840px) 100vw, 3840px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Positive booking trends for the up-coming Chinese New Year holiday \u00a0suggest there will be a strong resurgence in Chinese travel to Thailand.<\/p>\n<p>In January 2015, Thailand welcomed 2.65 million foreign tourists and generated about THB120 billion in revenue, representing a year-on-year increase of 15.9% in arrivals and 12.7% in revenue.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-88500\"><\/span>Minister of Tourism and Sports, Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul said: \u201cWe expect to enjoy a steady increase in the first quarter, especially in February due to the high demand from the China market during this coming Lunar New Year.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Thailand claims to have the world\u2019s largest Chinatown (in Yaowarat, Bangkok), which is also the location for the nation\u2019s biggest Chinese New Year celebrations.<\/p>\n<p>Chinese New Year is also celebrated in Phuket, Nakhon Ratchasima, Ratchaburi, Phetchaburi, Trang, Suphan Buri, Nakhon Sawan, Songkhla (Hat Yai), Ayutthaya, Chon Buri (Pattaya), and Chiang Mai.<\/p>\n<p>Supporting domestic tourism is also an objective of the \u201c2015 Discover Thainess\u201d campaign, as a way to promote Thailand\u2019s natural and cultural assets among Thais and foreigners.<\/p>\n<p>Last week, the government also announced Monday, 4 May will be declared an extra holiday to extend the 1 May Labour Day holiday until 5 May, to promote domestic tourism.<\/p>\n<p>The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) will continue to invest in important travel trade shows as well as organise regular road shows to update the country\u2019s tourism.<\/p>\n<p>In January the TAT had a high-profile presence at the ASEAN Tourism Forum in Myanmar and FITUR in Spain; two show that were platforms for the launch of the \u201cDiscover Thainess\u201d campaign.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Strong tourist arrivals in January should give Thailand a positive first quarter, the Tourism Authority of Thailand reported Wednesday.
