5,355 Phuket cyclists register for ‘Bike for Dad’
It has been confirmed that around 5,355 people in Phuket have registered to take part in the nationwide “Bike for Dad” cycling event to be held today (Dec 11) to mark His Majesty the King’s 88th birthday.
The event will start promptly at 3pm at Provincial Hall and stop at the halfway mark, Wat Chalong, where participants can join in with various activities including a tree planting ceremony where 88 trees will be planted in honour of HM The King.
Phuket Governor Chamroen Tipayapongthada will lead cyclists on the 29-kilometre route, also known as the “Route of Good Fortune”.
However, officials are urging motorists to avoid Phuket Town from 3pm to 6pm while the cyclists complete the circuit which is runs as follows:
Start at Provincial hall
Turn left onto Damrong Rd
Turn left onto Pattipat Rd
Continue onto Chao Fa East Rd
At Chalong Circle, head north along Chao Fa West Rd
Rest stop at Wat Chalong
Continue north along Chao Fa West rd
Turn right onto Wirat Hongyok Rd (at Wat Naka)
Continue onto Bangkok Rd
Turn left onto Bangkok Rd (northbound)
Pass Suriyadej Circle onto Yaowarart Rd
Turn right onto Phang Nga Rd
Turn right onto Phuket Rd
Continue to Saphan Hin
At Saphan Hin Park, turnaround and head north back along Phuket Rd
At Surin Circle (the ‘Clocktower Circle’), continue north on Montri Rd
Turn right onto Narisorn Rd
Conclude route at Provincial Hall.
